The hippie town of Hawaii Island! This is where many visitors come to recharge their batteries in search of spirituality, as yoga and meditation classes are legion. As a joke, the locals are used to say that witnesses protected by the American justice system are sent to Pahoa, because only hippies live there and no one would have the idea of coming to look for them in this village of less than 1,000 inhabitants! In the spring of 2018, Pahoa was largely destroyed by the eruption of Kilauea, and although there were no casualties, more than 500 houses were destroyed. In 2022 the lava still smokes along the roads.
