Bordered by an immense beach of grey sand, Playas has the appearance of a somewhat neglected fishing village. Boats with makeshift sails, sometimes crossed out with advertising slogans, rest on the sand as soon as they return from fishing, around 4 p.m., the ideal time to go and negotiate a good fish for the evening. It's then that soccer and volleyball games liven up the beach. While it's completely quiet during the week, many Guayaquileños come to Playas at weekends to relax. During the high season (January), the village becomes a nightmare for tourists in search of serenity.
