Located 27 kilometers west of Salamá, Rabinal is a small farming town with a strong indigenous tradition. It is renowned for its ancestral production of ceramics, painted using the Nij technique. Another cultural asset that has contributed to its renown is el Rabinal Achí, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2005. Also known as ballet-drama, this is a pre-Columbian play performed every January 25 for the patron saint's day in honour of San Pablo Apóstol.
