It alone justifies a detour to Baja Verapaz. Located 40 km northwest of Salamá and 55 km southeast of Cobán, this 1,017-hectare biotope was created in 1976. Objective: to protect and conserve the cloud forest. Among the wide variety of species, amphibians and birds it contains, its luxuriant tropical vegetation is home to the legendary quetzal.
