Originally a small fishing port, Buzios has become a fashionable seaside resort, renowned for its romantic restaurants and lively nightlife. Some consider it to be Brazil's Saint-Tropez. This comparison is not without historical truth, as Búzios became famous in the 1960s when Brigitte Bardot, at the height of her fame, spent a few weeks holidaying there with her then Brazilian fiancé. For Lio and the lovers of Pampelone, the comparison doesn't stop there. You can really see a resemblance between the Saint-Tropez peninsula and the Búzios site. The stones may be a little less steeped in history - there's no rue Rompe-cul or Sarrazine tower here - but the scenery is stunningly beautiful. With a peninsula stretching 8 km, the twenty-three beaches are all very different. There's something for everyone: some beaches have rough, cool waters suitable for surfing, while others are calm and warm, ideal for swimming. In summer and during feriados (long weekends), the small resort (population 30,500) is invaded by Cariocas and tourists, many of them Argentine. The population of Buzios increases tenfold. If you like crowds and promiscuity, prices soar and available accommodation is scarce.Búzios is an ideal place to relax, practice water sports or dine by candlelight in landscapes reminiscent of Provence with their rolling bays.
