Luing is located 25 km south of Oban. It is reached by a short ferry ride across Cuan Sound from the island of Seil. This former slate island produced much of Scotland's slate until the 1960s. Luing is characterized by picturesque villages and breathtaking views of the islands of Belnahua, Scarba and the Garvellachs. It is home to a wide variety of wildlife including otters, hares, seals and dolphins. You will find two prehistoric forts and the Eye-Well, a natural well containing healing water. You can spend the night in a B&B or house to rent, or in wilderness camping (allowed).
