Bogolioubovo lies on a hill overlooking the Kliazma valley. Its history is linked to that of Prince Andrei Bogoliubsky, the architect of the move of the capital of Russia to the northeast and one of the most important figures of the Golden Ring. His tragic end gave these places a character that pious Russians still revere today. Fifteen conspirators burst into Andrei's chamber and pierced him with several swords. To the horror of his attackers, he managed to escape and hid. His murderers followed his groans, found him and killed him without hesitation.
