Prince Iouri Dolgorouki is also the founder of this city in the 12th century: the last white stone church was built here before the arrival of the Tatars. For a long time it was not possible to reach Yuriyev-Polsky from Suzdal because it was necessary to cross a top-secret military zone. The inhabitants of the neighbouring towns rarely come to Yuriyev-Polsky, mocking its extreme tranquillity. Tourist facilities are minimal. The local atmosphere is deliciously old-fashioned. Earthen embankments, former fortifications, surround the old town in places and add to its charm
