The shrine is dedicated to Omononushi, the mythological deity related to the great Izumo and deity of the navigators, and to the retired emperor Sutoku. Founded in the 11th century, it became a shrine only in the Meiji era. Located at the top of the hill, it has the reputation of being the most difficult to reach, but it offers an exceptional panoramic view. The first steps lead to the daimon and then to the shō-in (parlor). Then there is the Asahino Yashiro (Rising Sun shrine building), the Gohonden (main building) and the Ema-dō pavilion. It can be reached from Takamatsu in about an hour by the JR Dosan line or the private Kōtoden line.
