The town of Shorzha lies in a green setting on the eastern shore of the lake, where the northern and southern basins meet. The black sandy beaches, testimony of an ancient volcanic activity, are dominated by the often steep walls of the mountains, bearing rare vestiges of the forests which formerly covered the slopes of the chain of Arégouni, which prolongs in north that of Sevan. Shorzha has preserved a rustic 16th-century chapel. The road between Shorzha and Artanich, whose peninsula is a sanctuary for local flora and fauna, 8 km to the south, is sumptuous and well worth a stop.
