Hayravank, located south of the northern basin of the lake, which here is turquoise blue due to the white sand of the shoreline, is the most beautiful medieval church on the lake. It stands on a promontory overlooking the lake, which widens here, allowing a panoramic view of both the opposite shore and the Kegham Mountains, which drown in soft ripples in its waters. The woods planted on the shoreline in the 1950s as the water receded have not had time to flourish. The rising lake level submerged the trees along the shore. A short-lived mangrove, because with a winter that turns the lake into an ice pack, these trees are doomed.
