From Serra San Bruno, the 110 road to Stilo winds through the woods on the slopes of Pecoraro (1,423 m), to this ancient Byzantine hermitage center with its somewhat austere environment. The modest houses lean against the side of the imposing Mount Consolino. In the 10th century, Stilo was the most important Byzantine center in southern Calabria (the same role that Rossano played in northern Calabria). Today it attracts visitors from all over the world thanks to the Cattolica, one of the best preserved Byzantine churches in southern Italy, with perfect proportions. Stilo is a good starting point for walks and excursions.
