Scilla was made famous by Homer and his famous "from Charybdis to Scylla", meaning that one goes from one danger to another. It refers to two mythical monsters, Scylla and Charybdis, threatening ships in the Strait of Messina. Today the rock of the monster, which has become a small village on a promontory, has something to charm. The fishermen's houses of the picturesque district of Chianalea, which slope down to the port, are among the most beautiful of the Tyrrhenian coast. Scilla lives partly from the sea. There is a small pebble beach that is very popular in summer and you can watch the swordfish fishermen's boats go by.
