Long sandy beaches and the charm of its walled old town have long made Budva the liveliest and most touristic city on the coast, resting on the sea like a water lily on what was once an island. The old town is mentioned as far back as the5th century BC, but its current appearance dates from the Venetian period. Badly damaged by the earthquake of 1979, the city was rebuilt within eight years. Since then, the modern city has undergone impressive development. With its Saint-Tropez feel, Budva is undoubtedly the place to be for jet-setters and trendy young people.
