Uusikaupunki (Nystad) is an idyllic wooden coastal town north of Turku. The red facades of its old salt warehouses are now home to restaurants and antique stores. The Myllymäki hill, accessible by foot, is topped by old windmills. From the belvedere, a magnificent panorama stretches out over the marina and the sea, both dotted with a thousand white sails during the summer months. On the road that continues along the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia, softwood and birch forests are interspersed with small fields of barley and potato fields in bloom in August.
