A multitude of small islands make up this archipelago. Of these, 4 are inhabited, including Kumlinge, the largest. On this tranquil island, the red granite gradually disappears to make way for black mineral stone. The stone-built church, dedicated to Saint Anne, is renowned for its chalk paintings. In the village, you'll find all services and a bank in Enklinge. Åland's only remaining aeronautical beacon is located here. These beacons were built in the late 1930s to facilitate night-time air traffic between Stockholm and Helsinki, until they were rendered obsolete by radionavigation.
