It is the country's most westerly municipality. This privileged position has made it an essential stop on the historic postal route between Sweden and Finland. A huge post and customs house was built here by Engel in Storby, the main village, in 1828. It is also home to a small 13th-century church and offers the chance to immerse yourself in the typical life of small villages proud of their traditions, where the richly decorated May tree stands proudly throughout the year. In addition to the archipelago's finest sandy beach, Storby is the economic heart of the island.
