Founded in 1443, Naantali has a population of 18,000. Located 15 km northwest of Turku, the small port of Naantali is a chic resort. The old town, with its narrow streets and wooden houses, resembles a museum with the delightfully old-fashioned charm of an ancient water town. The President of the Republic has a summer residence here, where the country's highest dignitary has regularly spent his vacations for the past fifty years. Naantali's reputation as a spa town dates back to 1723. At that time, people began to take the waters at the Viluluoto spring. The Naantali thermal baths were opened in 1863. By the end of the century, the commune was already a popular holiday resort. It's also here that you'll find the famous Moumines park, the little cartoon characters that Nordic people in general, and Finns in particular, love so much.Naantali is packed with art galleries! Here's our selection: Tapani Kiippa's studio at 7 Fleminginkatu (https://kiippa.fi/yhteystiedot), Pentti Koivikko's summer-only studio at 5 B Tuulensuunkatu (www.penttikoivikko.fi), Kristiina Turtonen's studio at 15 Mannerheiminkatu (www.kristiinaturtonen.fi) and Naantalin Taidehuone's summer-only art gallery at 5 Mannerheiminkatu.
