Kotka, 135 km east of Helsinki and 65 km from the Russian border, is a major Finnish port located along the King's Highway. It currently has a population of 51,869 (2020). The heart of this green city is built on an island. Beautiful parks, such as the Sappoka Gardens, give the town a sense of air. Kotka's history is also of interest.Under Russian rule, the town was one of the tsars' favorite haunts in the Grand Duchy of Finland.
