Located just a hundred kilometers from Helsinki, the town of Kouvola has spread over a vast territory, where countryside and town tend to merge. It's a destination that's very popular for its opportunities to escape into nature, including hundreds of mökkis. The Repovesi National Park (https://www.nationalparks.fi/repovesinp) offers superb hiking opportunities, some forty kilometers north of the city. Take the time to stroll through the Kouvola Museum district (Museokortteli) at Varuskuntakatu 3-6. This area, with its old wooden houses and ancient gardens, is in itself a museum (miljöömuseo) that will take you back in time to discover the old town. Pretty little stores and traditional cafés provide idyllic, charming stops. You'll feel the history of these houses within their walls and under their old wooden ceilings.
