In the vernacular language, Ponerihouen (Pwäräiriwa, in Kanak) means "the mouth of the river". At the crossroads between the Oceanic coast of the North-East and the Mining North, this small town of 2,370 inhabitants, founded in 1879, has a magnificent metal bridge built by Gustave Eiffel. Agriculture is an important activity and the Chaîne's magnificent landscapes are softened somewhat to give pride of place to deep valleys and vast meadows. Here, tourism has not yet taken hold, but that does not mean that we do not enjoy admiring the panoramas.
