Poindimié is, with Hienghène, the most dynamic village of the East Coast. It is even a small town. Its tranquility, its human warmth, its generous nature and its quality of life are undeniable. Here, everyone knows each other, greets each other and takes the time to live together. The commune was really born in 1945, when the industrialist Henri Dewez, seduced by the beauty of the bay, decided to create "the establishments of Poindimié", in an area marked by the stigma of expropriation. The road link with Nouméa (1954), the Povilla dam and the bridges built over the Tiwaka, Amoa and Tchamba rivers (in the 1970s) opened up the region and turned it into the commune we know today: a small haven of peace with 4,868 inhabitants that one can hardly get enough of, set between the immense Tiéti beach and the green mountains of the Chaîne.
