Pouébo (Pweevo, in Kanak) lives essentially from banana culture and everything here is a tribute to nature, its luxuriance, its colours, its smells and its flavours. The fruit trees and the thousand flowers that line the roads rub shoulders with the endless open sea and the emerald mountains, traversed by beautiful waterfalls, such as Colnett's. The mangrove swamp, gardens and kindness of the locals (2,452 inhabitants) only add to an already very attractive picture. A passage here is essential for any trip to Caledonia and offers to see the most beautiful face of the Pebble, on its northeast coast, spared from nickel exploitations and eminently steeped in Kanak culture. The church of Pouebo is very beautiful.
