Pouembout (Pwëbuu in kanak) is nestled in a beautiful, open plain, where the view plunges far into the horizon. In case of heavy rainfall, RT 1 can be temporarily cut off. Created in 1883 by the prison administration, it is now the granary of the Northern Province and even the largest agricultural school in France. Among the notable buildings, we can mention the pigeon loft (1898) and the castle Grimini (1886). The latter was heavily damaged by Cyclone Erika, before being renovated in 2006 to house the municipal library. The population is 2,591. It forms a quasi-agglomeration with nearby Koné.
