A small dynamic commune of 3 542 inhabitants, La Foa (Foha en kanak) is doing a lot for tourism in the region and deserves more to stop than a passage. Born of the construction of Fort Teremba in 1871, it was plural by its Melanesian roots, which were associated with former bagnards, settlers, Malbars de la Réunion and the Asian people. The Broussarde culture is now well organized, between lagoon and mountains, and the activities are as numerous as the good accommodation. At the entrance to the village, the Marguerite footbridge succeeded an old wooden bridge of 1893. Assembly in France by disciples of Gustave Eiffel, it was transported to date and inaugurated in 1909.
