Noumea : How do I travel?

How to go alone

Average price of a return flight Europe-Nouméa: 1 600€. Count at least 24 hours, up to 35 hours depending on the connections. Note that the price variation depends on the company borrowed but, above all, on the time required to book. To obtain attractive rates, as for accommodation, it is essential to do so in advance. Remember to buy your tickets six months before departure! A good alternative may also be to book separate tickets and travel through Australia.

How to go on a tour

Because of the number of islands and the various possible combinations, tour operators will propose you many tours from Noumea, often combining a tour of the Grande Terre by car and a stay on Lifou and the Isle of Pines. You can also opt for a diving or hiking trip from the capital. Ask the specialists to find the formula that suits you best.

How to get around

Nouméa has three bus companies that serve respectively: the urban network, the suburban network, and the bush. Unfortunately, there is no public transportation on the islands. The cab (green and white) is a good solution to get around the capital. After 7pm, they are the only way to get around, as bus services stop at that time. For more autonomy, you can also rent a car.

Noumea : Discover

The ethnic mix reflects the cultural mosaic of the archipelago, where Kanaks, Europeans, Wallisians, Indonesians, Vietnamese and West Indians, among others, live together. Sports activities are plentiful during the day and evenings are animated by the friendly night scene of the bays. But to escape the urban activity, a change of scenery is never far away, thanks to the Grand Sud, the surrounding peaks and the ferries or flights to the Loyalty Islands and the Isle of Pines. Here you can take the time to slowly recover from your trip, start to observe the sea bed thanks to the islets, and immerse yourself in the culture at the Tjibaou center... From Noumea, you can even organize a day in the south, to go hiking for example and start treading the red Caledonian earth. And don't forget to discover the local cuisine, very much oriented towards fish: a delight!
