Vang Vieng was once, before the arrival of tourism, a peaceful village on the banks of the Nam Song River, nestled in the hollow of karst mountains pierced by caves, 32 or more in number. Vang Vieng has become very popular, with restaurants, bars, travel agencies, hotels and guesthouses growing like mushrooms over the last ten years. It would be a pity to forget that Vang Vieng is also home to huge sugar loaf mountains, caves... Mountain biking, rock climbing, zip line, kayaking, rafting and even hot air balloon rides can be enjoyed here. Many agencies offer outdoor excursions of one or more days in the surrounding area.
