A charming little haven of peace in the heart of Franconian Switzerland, with its fortress dominating the old town and, above all, its beautiful Baroque basilica. The latter was built by Balthasar Neumann between 1730 and 1739 at the request of Prince-Bishop Carl von Schönborn. Even today, Gößweinstein remains one of the stops on the many pilgrimages that take place every year between May and September. Behind the basilica is a replica of the grotto at Lourdes. Gößweinstein's added attraction lies in the many vantage points afforded by the surrounding cliffs: ideal for walks and photo opportunities.
