Coburg (or Cobourg in French) has about 41,000 inhabitants. The Saxe-Coburg-Gotha family was the originator of this beautiful city dating from the 11th century, and they were able to create close ties between Bavaria and the United Kingdom. Indeed, the Duke of Kent married Victoria, a princess of Coburg in 1818. Together they had a daughter, Victoria, who became the Queen of England. When she grew up, she married Albert of Coburg. The Windsors can be traced back to them. The inhabitants also boast one of the most impressive castles in Germany: the Coburg Veste. It was also a forced residence of the reformer Martin Luther for six months.
