The "jeans capital" could be nicknamed Buttenheim, because it was here that Löb Strauß, better known as Levi Strauss, was born and raised. But the story of the jeans doesn't begin here. In 1847, the family fled poverty and moved to the United States, where Levi Strauss entered the textile industry. Buttenheim now houses a museum in the house where the great industrialist was born. Beyond that, there's not much else to see in this small town of 3,500 inhabitants, apart from a few pretty half-timbered houses. Buttenheim enjoys a good geographical position at the gateway to Franconian Switzerland.
