Pottenstein is a pretty little town with attractive half-timbered houses at the foot of a fortress in a rocky setting that's fantastic for hiking. But this small town of 5,000 inhabitants stands out from other destinations in Franconian Switzerland for its sports facilities, with the unusual rock pool (Felsenbad) and the Erlbenisfelsen park for summer tobogganing. Pottenstein is also famous for its Devil's Grotto (Teufelshöhle). At 14 m high and 30 m wide, it has the largest entrance of any cave in Germany, and on the 1.5 km-long path you can admire a vast variety of stalactites and stalagmites.
