Located 4 km from Lienz, near Debant, Aguntum was a Roman city in the province of Noricum under Emperor Claudius, elevated to the rank of municipe (municipium) with its own municipal rights in the 1st century B.C. Until themid-5th century, it was a flourishing trade and craft center. The region's main export goods were copper, timber, dairy products and Tauern rock crystals. Remains of baths, an atrium and a town gate have been uncovered. Archaeological finds are on display at the Bruck Castle Museum in Lienz and the Innsbruck Museum.
