Zwettl is a pretty little town in the centre of the Waldviertel. With its colourful facades and some famous historical monuments, it is an excellent stopover in this region, which is a backyard for the greenery-hungry Viennese. The area is home to a heritage jewel, a major tourist, cultural and spiritual attraction with the Zwettl Abbey, 4km from the city centre, a monumental jewel. In summer, the prestigious International Organ Festival takes place here, attracting music lovers from all over the country and beyond. The abbey is home to the highest Cistercian abbey tower, with its 99 m high golden Christ blessing the world.
