This small spa town enjoys an idyllic setting in the heart of a peaceful coniferous forest. The thermal springs have been known here since time immemorial and were mentioned in the first medieval document relating to the town. In the 18th century, the town council decided to develop its thermal baths by building this pretty resort, frequented by Alexander I, Tsar of Russia, Marie-Louise, Napoleon's wife, and Empress Sissi, whose statue now faces the spas. The town also houses an open-air museum of traditional architecture and an ethnographic exhibition.
