On the eastern edge of Slovakia, on the border with Poland and Ukraine, the Poloniny Park is off the tourist trail. Inscribed since 1997 on the UNESCO list, 80% of the forest is primary forest, mainly beech. It is the ideal place to discover the abundant fauna and flora of rare species. Summer is the best season to explore the park's trails that lead to the two neighbouring countries. In winter, the region offers some great cross-country skiing opportunities, even if the cold and the amount of snow does not make transportation easy. Finally, in this Ruthenian region, beautiful elements of folk architecture remain, such as beautiful wooden churches.
