Founded around 1150, this pretty town is, with its 42 000 inhabitants, the most important of the Bieszczady and a large industrial and historical center is one of the first oil extraction centers in the world (the first one dates back to 1884!). Rich of an important cultural and religious heritage, and close to the Bieszczady, Sanok attracts more and more tourists, especially Polish, Slovakian and Ukrainian locals. It has a rather pleasant city center and especially the largest ethnographic park in Poland which is a real pleasure to visit in summer. It is the privileged gateway for those who want to venture into the Bieszczady
