4,013 inhabitants. 12 km east of Levoča, the small town of Spišské Podhradie is dominated by one of the most beautiful castles in Slovakia, Spiš Castle. In the 12th century, the town of Spišské Podhradie was attached to the castle, then became independent in the following century. Like other towns in the Spiš region, it benefited from the arrival of German settlers to develop. Situated at the foot of the castle classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993, it offers accommodation and catering facilities during your visit. The castle is accessible by a path from the cemetery where you can park for free
