The folk village of Vlkolínec, with a population of 29, has about 55 traditional wooden houses. Founded in the 14th century, it was incorporated into the neighboring town of Ružomberok in 1882. This village-museum has been on the Unesco World Heritage List since 1993 for its perfectly preserved houses, which display the particular style of North Carpathian houses, with a wooden frame, clay walls and a stone base. For the record, the name Vlkolinec comes from the obligation in the Middle Ages to set wolf traps(vlk in Slovak).
