AUGUSTUS DAL 1927

Patisserie €€
5/5
1 review

For almost a century, Augustus has been a reference in artisanal pastries. At this small address along the Via Toledo, people stop to buy a babà, a piece of pastiera or an ice-cream, to be enjoyed on the way. Augustus is also a delicatessen with savoury specialities such as frittata imbottita and a good selection of cheeses (excellent mozzarella). If you want to take your time and sit down, enjoy the tavola calda and its typical good food.

LA SFOGLIATELLA MARY

Patisserie

During your walk along Via Toledo, make a short detour to the Umberto I Gallery, first to admire its monumental iron and glass architecture, then to stop at this tiny counter and enjoy a sfogliatella, a speciality of the house that is very well executed. Riccia (puff pastry) or frolla (shortcrust pastry), you will have to choose, unless you are tempted by another of their delicious pastries, such as babà au rhum or promessa d'amore, a dessert to be discovered!

VINCENZO BELLAVIA

Patisserie

A temple of gluttony born in 1925 when Antonio Bellavia, a native of Palermo, left his native Sicily to open a pastry shop in Naples. There is an impressive choice, a very appetizing stall where all the Neapolitan specialities(sfogliatella, pastiera, babà), as well as Sicilian desserts such as cannoli, can be found. The coffee is also delicious. Moreover, the place also makes small snacks. Good news: the brand has a point of sale at the airport, for one last sweet temptation before returning home!

PINTAURO

Patisserie

An institution, a temple, a must-see. Pintauro has been open for over 200 years and is the inventor of sfogliatella, a typical Neapolitan pastry in the shape of a cone, prepared with puff pastry or shortcrust pastry and filled with vanilla or caramel ricotta and candied fruit. It can be served cold, but it is better just out of the oven! The Pintauro's is excellent, even if according to the Neapolitan, Scaturchio's sfogliatella would have become the best. A story of taste to be followed.

PASTICCERIA SORELLA

Patisserie

Opened since 1920, this pastry shop has the advantage of having a small terrace, with a nice view on a massive church with an old-fashioned charm and a roof that is now gone. The sweets here are the best in the neighbourhood: sfogliatella, babà, zeppole (fried cabbage with cream filling) are the success of this address. The service is smiling and the coffee excellent. The interior room has not changed since the creation of the place, the marble floor is magnificent, it is well highlighted by the powerful lighting.

CAFFÈ DIAZ

This little coffee overlooks a house with an outdated pink rose and turns your back on a small church. Very frequented by tourists. A stone's throw from the café, in red brick, stands one of the only medieval remains of the city.

ANTICO FORNO DELLE SFOGLIATELLE CALDE

Patisserie

A stone's throw from the station is this charming pastry shop whose specialty is sfogliatella, the Neapolitan sweet with a heart of citrus-flavoured ricotta, in a puff pastry or shortcrust pastry sprinkled with impalpable sugar. Some Neapolitans even say that the best are eaten here, always served hot and fragrant, ideally accompanied by a small espresso. We can only recommend that you get an idea of it for yourself...

LEOPOLDO INFANTE

Patisserie

In this pastry shop, which is also a bar, you can discover the traditional taralli "nzogna e pepe " - lard and pepper - those delicious twisted biscuits that, even in the last century, were sold in the streets of Naples by the tarallari, travelling merchants. The brand also offers a range of traditional Italian biscuits and pastries such as babà or sfogliatella, to take away or to eat on the spot. Other outlets in the historic centre, in Spaccanapoli and Via Toledo, as well as in the Vomero district.
