Budget & Tips
The price varies according to the type of accommodation chosen. It goes without saying that the difference in price will be felt between a dormitory bed in a youth hostel (around €20) and a room in a 5-star hotel (€150 and more). Prices also vary according to the season: going during the low season will cost you less than during the school holidays. In the Mercato district, you will find hotels at lower prices, especially around the train station, but in a noisy and unsafe area at night. Be careful if you spend the evening outside and take a taxi to get home. On the other hand, the Chiaia and Santa Lucia districts are home to a number of high-class establishments on the waterfront. When it comes to suites with a view of the Bay of Naples and the Castel dell'Ovo, prices go through the roof! Other addresses, with more reasonable prices, are found alongside the shops and restaurants in the Chiaia district. Note that it is often more advantageous to book a room directly on the hotel's website than to go through an intermediary (such as Booking.com).
To be booked
It is always best to book, especially during the high season, i.e. late spring to early autumn, and during the Christmas and Easter holidays. Outside of these times, last-minute reservations can help you get a better price. Finally, some hotels close outside the tourist season, from November to late February/early March, but this is especially true of the region's seaside resorts: in Naples, you'll find a wide range of accommodation at any time of the year.
For food lovers
Breakfast is often included in the price and usually consists of a continental buffet. For Italians, breakfast is the least important meal of the day. This is sometimes reflected in hotels that offer a sober buffet with industrial croissants, bread and jam in individual portions. Fortunately, there are also many places that take care of the first meal of the day, with homemade cakes and artisanal products. If breakfast is extra or not to your liking, it's best to go to a café: it will be cheaper, certainly better, and you'll get a taste of the Italian morning atmosphere. Do as the Neapolitans do: order a coffee and a sfogliatella fresh from the oven!
Smokers
Smoking is not permitted in the hotel room, but if the room has a smoking area, smoking is permitted on the balcony or terrace.
