Founded in 1526 by Juan Lopez de Archuleta, his name would mean "Deer" in caribe language. Inhabited by a little more than 10 000 people, the small island of Coche (13 km wide over 12 km long) is a little less affected by tourism, although in its capital, San Pedro, hotels have already gone out of land. However, San Pedro remains a fishing village. The electricity comes from a thermal plant. There are also the villages of El Bichar, Guinima, El Amparo, El Guamache and Uva. All have pleasant beaches. Here they are less busy and ideal for windsurfing and kite. Moreover, it is not uncommon for some windsurfers and kitesurfeurs to come directly from El Yaque to Coche. White sand beaches contrast with red land and marine blue. Good alternative to Margarita, natural. By car, 2 hours are enough to appreciate the desert landscapes by passing the salines that turn into beautiful colorful hills that the native people call the "Big Gun". The saltworks produce a large amount of highly regarded salt. Here the dream beaches are called Playa El Coco, the romantic beach par excellence, Playa la Punta, the least quiet, Playas El Amor, the delicious, and El Saco, dashing.
