South of Cecina, this pretty and rather modern seaside resort is located on the splendid Etruscan coast. Long, wide beaches with crystal-clear waters and fine sand border an age-old pine forest, whose dense vegetation provides welcome coolness on hot summer days. A coastal observation and defence fort, built by the French in 1785, stands proudly on the beach next to the dunes. This is why the town is also known as "Marina del Forte". Today, part of the fort is used as an exhibition space for cultural events, of which there are many during the high season.
