In the second half of the nineteenth century, the Castiglioncello school of Diego Martelli, a Florentine writer, was born here. It was the rallying point for a group of painters who found in landscapes the inspiration for their works of art. The Macchiaioli (Tachist) movement was born! The city has an ancient charm. From Luigi Pirandello to Vittorio Gassman, from Marcello Mastroianni to Luchino Visconti and Alberto Sordi, many have spent good times in this holiday resort. It is therefore not surprising that Pasquini Castle is the setting for cultural events such as the Castiglioncello Literary Prize.
