In a magnificent setting on the banks of an artificial lake and between two high mountain ranges, this village is the tourist center of Mavrovo National Park. Here you'll find accommodation, restaurants, a few shops, mountain guides and the park's information center. There's plenty to do here, with the country's chicest ski resort, Zare-Lazarevski, located south of the lake, and hiking trails from both shores to the peaks. Mavrovi Anovi and the surrounding villages attract many tourists, mainly Skopians who come to ski, fish, hike or party at weekends, as the capital is less than 1h30 away by car. Somewhat removed from the hustle and bustle, beneath the majestic Mount Korab lies the Dlaboka Valley: a natural site listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
