Verucchio is one of those small villages where it is good to stop for a few hours to enjoy the peace and quiet, listen to the song of the cicadas, climb the small cobbled streets and enjoy the view of the hillside. It is the birthplace of the powerful Malatesta family, perched on a hill, and still preserves an imposing fortress, the Rocca Malatestiana, where, in 1212, Malatesta da Verucchio, called the "Mastin Vecchio" and founder of the powerful Malatesta family was born. You can walk around the center of the town along a paved road and come across the Archaeological Museum with its treasures from the 9th to the 7th century B.C. and the Rocca Malatestiana.
