The village of Bonwire is dedicated to kente, a complex and beautiful weaving technique, a specimen of which can be seen at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The village is said to boast some of the country's finest weavers. This has also given it a reputation as a tourist destination, and in recent times the village - not necessarily for the better - has been entirely transformed into a popular stopover for tourists. This doesn't make for a very pleasant visit: there are plenty of salesmen haranguing visitors, not always in a relaxed manner, to buy something for them. The welcome is often poor, but it's worth the detour if you want to get a little closer to the world of kente. But you might have more fun in another village that's less touristy and where harassment is less the rule. Apart from weaving, which is the town's main source of income, you'll also find some interesting homes in a style unique to this region.
