This beautiful little town, set on the banks of the River Suir, is surrounded on one side by the Slievenamon Mountains and on the other by the Comeragh Foothills. Carrick-on-Suir offers an interesting visit to Ormond Castle and the Heritage Centre, housed in a former Protestant church. Nearby, in Ahenny, you can take a look at the Ahenny High Crosses: two of Ireland's oldest ringed crosses (8th and 9th centuries) stand in the cemetery. These 4-metre-high sandstone crosses are decorated with Celtic symbols. The northern cross features a scene of David and Goliath.
