This town of 55,500 inhabitants with an unpronounceable name, that even the Swedes are content to call Övik (pronounced "euvik"), is located at the northern end of the High Coast, 80 km from Härnösand. From an important industrial activity, about twenty years ago, it knew how to transform itself and to emphasize its heritage and the nature which surrounds it. The ultra-modern train station that has sprung up at the foot of the large ski jumping hill stands out in this setting, but makes the town more accessible and better connected to the rest of the coast. Örnsköldsvik is the starting point for the new Botniabanan line, which takes less than 50 minutes to reach Umeå, further north.
