Situated on the Gulf of Bothnia, the starting point for excursions to the High Coast, further north, this city, seat of the prefecture of the Ångermanland region, is known for its high density of music schools and various formations. Formed in the east by the peninsula of Härnön, which two bridges connect to the mainland, the city, burned by the Russians in 1721, has retained traditional wooden houses. The street Långgatan in particular, very close to the Skeppsbron bridge where the pleasure boats anchor, is lined with old wooden buildings. The whole area is not lacking in interest. Some charming streets go down to the harbor, such as Nybrogatan and Storgatan, where you can find buildings with quite contrasting architectural styles. This is where you will find hotels, cafes, restaurants, as well as the town hall, built in 1791 by Olof Tempelman, and especially the cathedral, built in 1846 in a classical style, the only one in the country to be white. To the west, the mainland of the city has no charm, but there is the train station and large food stores open until 8 pm.
