Hobro, according to the medieval legal term, was a market town. Its privileged and strategic geographical location in this part of Jutland is probably the reason for this. At the crossroads of roads that followed each side of the Mariager Fjord, a protected harbor in a hilly area at the head of the same fjord, close to the old Viking fortress of Fyrkat. Later, Hobro also became an active railway station. In 2007, the municipality merged with other towns to form the municipality of Mariagerfjord. To see: the Vikingcenter Fyrkat, reconstruction of the old Viking city and the Hobro museum (objects found during excavations).
